Joél Vaca: Honored to be the Community School Coordinator at the Los Angeles School of Global Studies. I have served the students in Los Angeles since 2000 as a Math teacher at Fremont High School and the UCLA Community School at RFK. My goal is the LASGS become a hub of the community, a place where students and families can come and get services.

Born and raised in South Central Los Angeles. I have attended 76th st school, Horace Mann and Thomas A. Edison Junior High Schools and the California Academy of Math and Science. Earned my B.A. in Mathematics from the University of California at Santa Cruz in '99 and received my M.ed from the University of California at Los Angeles '18.

I am the oldest of 6 kids born to immigrant parents from Colima, Mexico. I am the first in my family to the University. I am Bi-lingual in Spanish and English, which meant I had to do ALL the translating and filled out all forms in my house.
