On March 14, 2018, MCLC students participated in a 17 minute walkout at 10 AM to protest gun violence and to honor the 17 students and teachers killed in the recent school shooting. This is edited video that tells the story of the walkout from the perspective of Global Studies students.

for many years are communities has suffer the consequences of gun violence for Generation many of us can relate to hearing gunshots at night sometimes struggle to forget to give you some sites of going to buy it in the street and I go to recently we should tell her Nova Scotia Nebraska down the street from here Garmin says evolved into a fail issue to America and office seems like there is no chance for change recorded fortunately students of color we cannot address the issue gun violence about addressing the possible unintended outcomes of high school security the criminalization of mucus color is the pathway from safety schools are applied the purpose of accounting policies is to create trust in our school is where we feel safe the first one would be ending random searches take me to the school-to-prison pipeline for you to trust me and then you create a culture of connectedness while driving beginning middle school to ensure that advisers are fishing we need more funding by getting in Middle School advisory a place where students can get a person to having someone who will provide an adequate resources in the advice 70 metal detectors random 2 weeks and school police when safer safe School look a little something like healing and unity and community hello ladies and gentleman Jose Santos and I'll be speaking on behalf of my fellow peers and Miguel Contreras going to Quinnipiac University 67% of Americans are in favor of any assault weapons we stand with the 67% of Americans to call for National ban on assault weapons how many lies do we need to lose until we take away these guns we have lost 17 lives at Stoneman Douglas High School 28 live at Sandy Hook Elementary 49 lives at the nightclub and 58 lives in the Las Vegas mass shooting these weapons have taken too many lies and brought so much pain to families people who want these weapons might say they want them for operational purposes then let us propose a compromise make these weapons available to rent and use a license gun range this way you can still have your enjoyment of shooting his weapons while ensuring Public Safety to the people who won dressed meet us who don't know any better or that we're just doing this to get out of class in the words of Emma we call we are here for a purpose we are this generation to end gun violence how many lives is it going to take this for how many crimes going to blame this how many times has a forsakenness and how much time is going into saving us if we want change we are the ones that are going to save one another we are the ones that are going to with her sisters and their brothers we are the ones that will come up with these Solutions and we will no longer tolerate oppression from these government institutions we are here today to demand that the universal background checks considered one's history of domestic let the voices of the victims as well as the perpetrators are no longer silence the fact the perpetrators of domestic violence accounted for 54% of mass shootings between 2009 and 2016 2dr policymakers to realize that we need an updated criteria can't afford to this Martins we are here today to commemorate the lives of the 17 students that were lost at the parking Florida shooting and we're here today because we've had enough thanks to conclude we almost remember today as a day of change who we are doing today is called the fight for our lives and it is only the beginning for us youth we will continue to have African control in to disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline we shall continue to fight for the change we want not only for a committee before relation to the students at Stoneman Douglas we stand in solidarity with you we stand alongside you and we will fight with you I would like to thank everyone who walked out today for their support of what we had to say about gun violence and how we can fix it now we will all go back to class to continue discussing and take to get action on this important issue thank you
